for:
Ř Drug-using Latino / Hispanic adolescents needing treatment
(ages 13 - 18; Spanish available)
Ř Parents
concerned about a drug-using
son/daughter (ages 15 - 20) who is
resistant to getting treatment (not
ethnicity-specific)
Description: CFAR
offers free drug counseling as part of two treatment
research
grants funded by the National Institute on Drug
Abuse.
Families participate in therapy sessions and research
assessments
to evaluate the program.
Type of Tx: Outpatient
drug treatment, usually 14 weekly sessions
Type of therapy
provided depends on project:
- Individual Cognitive-Behavioral
Therapy for adolescent.
- Functional Family Therapy for
adolescent and family.
- Couples or Individual Therapy for
parents of drug users.
Languages: English, Spanish
Counties served:
Qualifications: Therapists
have Ph.D.s or Master’s degrees.
Well trained in
manualized “best practices” therapies.
Referrals: Referral
not necessary – parents may call CFAR directly.
Staff will describe
the programs over the phone and ask
research
eligibility questions.
