Guidelines
Prairie
High School 2007-2008
Classroom
Expectations:
As Freshman you are getting closer to real life. My classroom policies and expectations are
designed to challenge and prepare you for this.
However, the most important aspect of your education is YOU. You are responsible for what you learn. Therefore, you must be an active participant
in your education.
Basic Classroom Rules:
·
SWEARING
or SLEEPING
·
Conversations
of
o
SEX,
DRUGS, ALCOHOL, OTHER TEACHERS
·
ARGUING
o
I
will not use class time to argue. If you
have an issue that is important to you please schedule an appointment with me
so we can discuss it.
·
FOOD
or DRINK(bottled water ok)
·
CELL
PHONES (absolutely no exceptions)
Cell Phone Policy
Specifics:
1. First Time:
If I see or hear them I will take them and
bring them to the office
where you can pick up at the end of the day.
2. Second Time: To the office they go and I make a phone
call home.
3. Third Time: To the
office once again, phone call home and 45 minute after
school detention.
iPods & Other Musical Devices (No Cell phones…even if
they play music):
There may be times that I will allow you to listen to your
music while working on projects or individual reading. However, if you use it when I have not
allowed it you will loose this privilege for the rest of the semester. No exceptions. If you aren’t sure-ask. I will be clear.
Attendance & Punctuality:
Regular attendance has a great influence on your learning
experience. I can’t teach you if you
aren’t here! You will receive 10 points everyday for being in class
on time and having your materials with you and ready. You will loose half of those points if you
are not in your seat as the bell rings or you do not have your materials with
you for class. (Materials includes your
text books.)
I will
follow the school policies for absences and tardy procedures. Make sure you get to the school policies as
some of them have changed. (Refer to page 8)
**In addition, if you are tardy
you must sign the “I was tardy” Clipboard before you take your seat.**
Make-up
and Late Work:
It is YOUR responsibility to make up all material missed
due to an excused or pre-arranged absence. You have two days to turn in any
make-up work or reschedule a missed exam for full credit for excused
absences only. It is your
responsibility to determine what was missed.
You have classmates-ask them. I
will only discuss missed assignments with you AFTER you have asked five of your
classmates. (At least one of them should
have been paying attention!)
I will not accept late work! This includes unexcused
absences. If you choose to miss
class…get your work to me!
(I
may accept late work on special needs basis.
You need to come see me before you plan to turn in work late. The decision will be made based on the effort
you are giving to all work in class and your individual needs. )
Office Hours:
I
will be available two days a week for you to come in and get extra help on
assignments or make up tests/assignments because of an excused absence. It will be one morning before school and one
afternoon after school so you can choose what works for you. I will have it posted for the week so make
sure you check the schedule.
Cheating:
Cheating in any form will not be tolerated. That includes helping another student to
cheat. It also includes copying answers
from another student’s paper. Identical
answers are proof of cheating. Read the student handbook concerning cheating.
Materials:
Grading:
20% Participation*
30% Tests, Quizzes
& Projects
50% Daily Work or
Homework
*Participation includes:
1. Being in class on time.
2. Being in your seat when the bell
rings.
3. Having ALL your materials with
you.
4. Being on task. (Doing what you are supposed to be doing when you are supposed to be doing it!)
If a problem arises in class the following steps will be
implemented:
1. Step One: A verbal warning and change in seating chart
2. Step Two: A call home to discuss problem with
parents
3. Step Three:
Assignment to 45 minutes of after school detention and another
phone call home.
4. Step Four: Referral
given to your grade level administrator.
**If necessary you will be removed to SMC immediately.**
Please read the information with your
parent(s)/guardian(s) and sign the following.
You may keep the guidelines for your refrigerator, nighttime reading, or
more importantly for your reference.
Failure to follow the guidelines will affect your grade.
This
sheet needs to be returned signed by Friday, September 7, 2007.
