Room 608
Welcome back to school! I am looking forward to getting to know you and to helping you enjoy success in science. This copy of the classroom expectations is a daily assignment worth ten points. To complete the assignment, you and a parent or guardian need to read and sign this paper. Return the signed paper to me to be recorded. When the paper is returned to you, keep it in your notebook for the rest of the year. This assignment is due on Friday, September 8, at the beginning of class.
a. It is your responsibility to check the assignment calendar for assignment and due dates and to make up the missed work. Assignments not made up in a timely manner receive a score of zero.
b. Many lab activities cannot easily be performed without partners. It is the student’s responsibility to arrange for partners. Labs must be made up within one week of when the lab was originally scheduled.
c. For each day of excused absence you have that day plus one to make up missed work. For example, if you missed two days, you would have three days to make up any missed work. You are encouraged to ask for assignments to be sent home in the event of extended absences (more than three days). Make up work for a prearrange absence is due one day after returning to school, regardless of the length of the absence. Labs can be done after school (2:10 – 3:00 PM), by appointment.
1. Interruptions to the teacher or to other students are inappropriate.
2. Respect others and their property.
3. Students are expected to maintain a positive, cooperative attitude towards each other and to the teacher.
4. Students are expected to be prepared for class.
5. Eating and drinking, except for water, is not allowed in the classroom. Neither eating nor drinking is allowed in the laboratory.
6. Students are expected to be in their seats and prepared for class when the tardy bell rings. Being tardy and/or unprepared will result in disciplinary actions and/or loss of points.
7. Students are expected to be participants in class and lab activities, not just observers.
PARTICIPATION
· arrive in class on time and prepared to work
· bring materials necessary for class activities (writing utensil, paper, notebook, textbook, etc.)
· be a participant (not just an observer) in class and lab activities
· use class time constructively and in a way that allows others to concentrate on their work
· be silent and attentive during lectures
· during class discussions, raise your hand and wait your turn before speaking
· follow and observe classroom rules and safety procedures
· handle and operate equipment properly
· limit requests for passes to critical needs only
· do not engage in off-topic conversations during independent work time
A due date is given with each assignment. It is your responsibility to complete the work before class on the due date. Late work will receive 50% credit.
Grades will be based on: tests, quizzes, class participation, lab reports, worksheets, and other assignments. Each assignment will be worth a number of points. Grades will be determined by the percentage of the total number of points possible received by each student for each grading period.
The grading scale is as follows:
A 93-100% C+ 77-79%
A- 90-92% C 73-76%
B+ 87-89% C- 70-72%
B 83-86% D+ 67-69%
B- 80-82% D 60-66%
Students are encouraged to keep all their work organized in a notebook. Notebooks that are the student’s own original work may be used while taking the semester final.
Bonus points will be awarded to those who pay lab fees within posted deadlines.
I have read and understand the general expectations and grading criteria for this class.
