Lab Fee:  Pay at the ASB office and show your receipt to your teacher.

Attendance:  Classes that are missed because of an excused absence may be made up under the following conditions:

1.    To make up lost points for class behavior/participation, the student needs to perform one hour of supervised learning activity.  See class behavior/participation make up requirements for criteria.

2.    To make up a lab or a test/quiz, the student must set up an appointment with the teacher to make up the activity.  There is no guarantee that the activity can be made up during class, so appointments during lunch or before and after school may be required. There is a one-week time limit, after a lab is performed, to do a make up in the lab.  After one week, an alternate assignment must be completed.

3.    To make up lost points for lab behavior, the student needs to perform the lab.  Lab behavior points cannot be made up when an alternate assignment is completed.

4.    To make up an RDQ, the student must write a current event paper.

If the absence is unexcused, the assignment, quiz or test will not be counted toward grade until the absence is excused and brought to the teacher's attention.

Student Behavior/Participation:  When students are in class, points will be earned from exhibiting the following behaviors.  Any interventions of behavior will result in a loss of points.  The class participation rubric will be used to assign daily points

a.  Treat other students and teacher with respect and consideration.

b.  Follow all learning facility rules (ie: the student handbook).

                        c.  Participate in learning activities during class time.

                        d.  Be in class and on time.

Tardy: Being to class on time is defined as “being in the classroom before the tardy bell rings.  A tardy will be handled the following way:  1st tardy will be a conference between student and teacher.  2nd tardy will result in a parent contact.  3rd & 4th tardy will be 45 minute after school detention and parent contact.  5th tardy will result in an administrator referral.

Grading Criteria:  Grades are based on:

  • Assessments (40%)
  • Student participation (15%)
  • Practice (30%)
  • Community Service (5%)
  • WASL Practice (10%)

Grading Category Summary:

·        Assessments:  All demonstrations of learning for the chapters, including finals and midterms.

·        Practice:  All daily homework, in class activities, and quizzes.  The following grading rubric will be used for practice:  10 Completed on time with logical answers, 5 completed late, 0 incomplete, illogical, or missing.

·        WASL Practice:  All lab reports based on student investigation.  The lab report rubric will be used to score each write up.

·        Participation:  All grades are based on the class behavior/participation rubric and the lab participation rubric.

·        Community Service:  All students are expected to contribute to the successful operation of the classroom.  Completed community service documentation is due at the end of each semester.

Cheating:  When cheating is knowingly conducted by two or more students all will be penalized.  Depending on the severity and reoccurrence, half credit or no credit may be earned by the students involved.  Examples:  If a student allows another to copy their paper, both will receive half credit.  If lab partners turn in identical lab reports, the points earned on the paper will be shared.  Reoccurrences will result in zeroes for both students.  If a student is looking at another student’s test, a zero will be earned by the onlooker.

Late Work:  When work that is graded based on completion is not completed on the assigned due date, the total points possible drop to 50%.  Documentation to receive points for this type of work can be submitted anytime within the semester it was assigned.  Graded work becomes worth 50% once it has been graded and handed back.  Quizzes are worth no credit once the test has been taken.  WASL practice and Assessments will not be accepted for credit if it is turned in outside of the grading period from which it was assigned.

Extra Credit:  Extra credit is an option for students who have completed all practice and investigation reports with a grade higher than 50% and would like to raise their grade.  Work receiving less than 50% can be redone.  A maximum of 3% can be earned.  A list of possible activities and requirements is available.

Dropped Test Score Option:  If a student has 3 or less combined, non school related, tardies and absences they will have the option to drop their lowest test score or replace it with the average of the remaining scores.

If a student has 4 or more combined non school related tardies and absences, they will NOT have the option to drop their lowest test score.

If a student has three or less absences or tardies going into the final, an absence during the final would not affect eligibility.  The final test score would be the dropped score.
