Prairie was established in 1979 on 38.6 acres. All of the classroom buildings are original. In 1994, a classroom building, gymnasium, main office remodel and commons were added to the site.

Prairie High School provides a variety of programs and activites for students and the community. Prairie houses a full-time day care for infants and toddlers, as well as pre-school classes. As a comprehensive high school, Prairie offers a variety of career and technical programs: AFROTC, DECA, FBLA, FFA, FCCLA, Computer, Industrial and Auto. In additon to the core academic classes, Prairie offers a variety of classes and programs in art, music, drama, foreign language, sign language and ELL. Prairie participates in the Greater St. Helens Athletic League, as a member of the WIAA, offering a variety of extracurricular sports and activities.
