Prairie High School Overview

Prairie High School is a comprehensive high school, grades 9-12 in the Battle Ground School District in Clark County in Washington State. Prairie High School lies in a rural community experiencing growth towards a suburban community. Prairie High School opened its doors in 1979 on 38.6 acres. All of the classroom buildings are in their original state and structure. In 1994 a classroom building, a gymnasium and a remodel of the main office and commons were added to the site. In a bond approval in 2005 the community approved the remodel of the auditorium, the track facilities, and a roof replacement. Projects are expected to be completed in 2008 with the track having been completed in 2006. Prairie High School has two feeder middle schools with increasing number of students coming from a third middle school due to the growth in the Battle Ground School District.

Prairie High School operates under a total building budget of $91,000. It is a challenge each year for the building to meet its needs after major operational expenses such as copying/general supplies, print shop and postage.  Additionally, Prairie receives I-728 monies from the state to support staff development. This money is managed by our School Improvement Team. Prairie High School is completing its third and final year of a Smaller Learning Community Grant.  Prairie High School and Battle Ground High School have shared approximately a million dollars to address specific goals outlined in the grant. The goals in the grant support our school improvement goals.

Prairie High School provides a variety of programs and activities for students and community. Prairie houses a full-time day care for infants and toddlers. Prairie offers pre-school classes for the community as well. As a comprehensive high school Prairie offers a variety of career and technical programs: JROTC, DECA FBLA, FFA, FCCLA, Computer, Industrial and Auto. In addition to the core academic classes, Prairie offers a variety of classes and programs in art, music, drama, foreign language, sign language and ELL. Prairie participates in the Greater St Helens Athletic League, as a member of the WIAA, offering a variety of extracurricular sports and activities.
