Geometry                              Mrs. Homola (Room 409)                          2006-2007

Description:  We will be using CPM: Geometry by College Preparatory Mathematics.  You will have the opportunity to “learn by doing” as you complete investigations and make discoveries about the geometric properties.  You will work cooperatively in groups and pairs as well as individually in the classroom and will have an individual homework assignment each evening.

Supplies (You are expected to have the following every day!):

  • Class textbook (must be kept in three-ring binder)
  • Lined paper and graph paper
  • Scientific or graphing calculator
  • Pencils (for homework), pens (for correcting)
  • Ruler – must also have metric scale

Classroom Guidelines

          1.  Bring all needed materials to class every day!

2.  Be in your seat and ready to work when the bell rings.  Tardies will result in disciplinary action.

3.  Cell phones that are out during class will be confiscated and turned in to the office.

4.  Electronic devices are NOT allowed (i.e. CD players, iPods, etc.)

5.  No food or drink allowed in the classroom with the exception of bottled water.

6.  Please refrain from swearing or using other inappropriate language.

7.  Be respectful, consistently courteous and cooperative.

8.  Obey all school rules!!!

In the event that you exhibit behaviors that interfere with the class’s learning process, the following consequences will be used depending upon the severity of the problem.

  • Verbal or visual warning
  • Call to parent and/or parent conference
  • Removal from classroom to Student Management Center (SMC)
  • Lunch Detention or After-School Detention
  • Office referral

If you are removed from the classroom for disciplinary reasons before assignments are recorded or quizzes given, you will receive automatic zeroes on the assignments and/or quizzes for the day.

Grading:  Grades will be based on the following approximate criteria.

Tests                                                  45%

Homework                                            25%

Quizzes                                                10%

Team Tests                                          05%

Classroom Participation/Cooperation 15%

Make sure all assignments are complete every day!!  In the event of an excused absence, students will have the number of days s/he was absent to complete and turn in all late work.  Missed assignments can be turned in for up to ˝ credit until the day of the unit test.  Late work will not be accepted after the completion of that unit.

You may do test corrections to earn back up to half of the points that you missed on unit tests.  This must be done before or after school or at lunch and has to be completed before the end of the next unit.  This option does not apply to quizzes.

Note:  All work must be shown on assignments, quizzes and tests for credit to be given.

Grading Scale:  The percent grades are converted to letter grades using the school-wide grading scale:

93.0-100   A            87.0-89.9   B+                   77.0-79.9   C+         67.0-69.9   D+

90.0-92.9  A-           83.0-86.9   B                     73.0-76.9   C           60.0-66.9   D

                             80.0-82.9  B-                     70.0-72.9   C-          0-59.9        F

Although a D average will earn credit toward graduation, to continue on to the next level of math, a C average must be earned each semester demonstrating prerequisite skills for the next class.

Cheating:  Cheating will not be tolerated.  All parties involved will receive automatic zeroes.  They will not be allowed to redo the assignment, quiz, or test.
