LEADERSHIP CLASS 2006-2007
I would like to thank you in advance for
all of the important work that you will do for
I am excited about working with all of
you. This is a very project-oriented
class, and in order to maximize our efficiency the following rules will be
followed. We will go over this document
in class and then both you and your parents need to sign at the bottom
signifying that you understand the format of the class.
OUT OF CLASSROOM RULES:
THESE
ARE EXTREMELY IMPORTANT. Because we will often be outside of the
classroom to work on projects, we will be very visible to the rest of the
student body and staff. Therefore, we
must always act like responsible leaders.
There is a sign-up sheet that MUST
be filled out EACH TIME you
leave class with departure time and destination. While performing your duties, there will be no hanging out with friends in the
hall or commons, making vending machine purchases, interrupting teachers in class to borrow supplies, etc. If you violate this agreement, the following
penalties apply:
VIOLATIONS:
will result in loss of pass privileges for a time and reduction in classroom grade.
CLASSROOM FORMAT:
You will have time most days to work on
leadership projects. However, effective
communication is probably the best leadership tool we have. At the beginning of each class period we will
have a class meeting led my either Mrs. Pfeiffer or an Executive ASB member to
attend to daily business: announcements, debriefing an event, etc. These last between 10-20 minutes and conclude
with a "Good of the Order" session when you can ask questions, make
an announcement or find help with a project.
There will also be lesson days, dedicated to learning about different
aspects of leadership. Active listening
and participation are MANDATORY.
Grading Expectation:
1. Daily
points: There are five points possible
per day. Each student is required to
keep a weekly journal detailing what he or she did that week. You will share this with Mrs. Pfeiffer at the
end of each 6 weeks and randomly. Points
will be removed for
clothing violations
FUND RAISING:
Everyone should be involved
in at least two fund raisers, i.e., dances, ticket sales…
MISCELLANEOUS PROJECTS AND COMMITTEE WORK:
For each 6 weeks, detail your
miscellaneous projects in a short report.
* An "A" student will do outstanding work,
excellent classroom behavior, go above and beyond the call of duty, have a good
attitude, and is willing to volunteer for duties that are not necessarily his
or her responsibility.
ASSEMBLIES:
This is perhaps the most visible result of
our efforts in Leadership class, (although we do not necessarily run all
assemblies).
***Each assembly must have a
detailed, word-processed agenda turned into Mrs. Pfeiffer and Mrs. Swart two
days before the assembly OR IT DOES
NOT HAPPEN!! Also, each
assembly must have a clean-up crew, lead by the Sgt. at Arms. Mrs. Pfeiffer has a few other assembly rules
that she will share with you in class.
GETTING OUT OF CLASSES:
With all that we do as leaders, sometimes
you will have to miss part of another class to set up for an event, attend a
conference, etc. While we always try to
minimize this, at times it is unavoidable.
If you need to miss part of a class, or you need to try and get a
non-Leadership class student out of class for some (very important) reason, you need to get Mrs. Pfeiffer’s
clearance.
• IMPORTANT NOTE:
Mrs. Pfeiffer is much more willing to do this when
you:
a) tell her what each
person is responsible for, and
b) give her plenty of
notice (say, a week or so).
REQUISITIONS:
If you are spending money as part of a
project, ALL requisition forms must be signed by Mrs. Pfeiffer
and have
LETTERS
OF RECOMMENDATION:
I am more than happy to write a letter of
recommendation for a deserving student.
As the ASB Advisor I am asked to write a lot of them, however, so to
insure that I get your letter done by your deadline, you need to follow the
following guidelines:
1. I need two
weeks notice (minimum) from the time of your deadline. This will allow me at least one weekend if I
need it.
2. I need all of the info that you want in
you letter: Name of organization,
address, and a list of you accomplishments that I can mix in with my own
comments. ( A
resume’ would be nice too.)
IMPORTANT NOTICE:
It is valuable if you tell me what you would like to highlight or
emphasize in this letter based on what is important to the organization
(leadership skills, community service, academics, etc.).
THANK YOU NOTES:
If you learn only one thing this semester,
I want it to be this: Thank you notes
make the world go round. If you are in
charge of an assembly, write a thank you note to the janitors that help set up,
the speaker, the clean-up volunteers and anyone else who helped you. If you put on a dance, send thank you notes
to all of the chaperones. Not only will
these people feel appreciated, they will be more likely to work with you the
next time.
These may seem like a lot of
rules, but they will help us get the most out of our Leadership class. By signing up for Leadership class you have
dedicated yourself to working towards making a difference at
I understand and agree with the guidelines governing Leadership class
