Testing

The links to the right provide information about different tests that
 high school students can take.

*The PSAT is taken primarily by sophomores and juniors.  It
serves as a practice test for the SAT and if taken in the
junior year can be used to qualify for the National Merit
Scholarship.  The test is in mid-October-  for registration and
cost information, contact the counseling center in late
          September.

*The SAT is a college entrance test.  Results are often used
as a criteria in awarding scholarships as well.

*The ACT is also a college entrance test.  Since some students
do better on the SAT or ACT, so it is a good idea to take both
          tests.

*The ASVAB is taken by sophomores, juniors, and seniors.
It can be used to qualify for military careers, but most
students use it to determine strengths and weaknesses in a
variety of academic and content areas.  It has a very good
career exploration program that is used when interpreting
scores with students.  The test is free.

*The High School Proficiency Exam is the test that is replacing
the WASL.  It is given in the Spring to 10th graders and those
juniors and seniors who have not passed one or more sections
          previously.

*AP (Advanced Placement) tests allow students to get
college credit-- depending on their performance.  The tests
are given in the library and there is a fee for taking each test.
AP classes are a great preparation for the tests, but a student
can take an AP test without taking an AP class.  For more
information, visit www.collegeboard.com or go to the library.
