Choosing/Applying For College

The links to the right give information and tips for choosing
and applying for college.  The first step is to review what
courses need to be taken to qualify for admission.  The second
step is to take an SAT and/or ACT test (see the testing section
for more information about these tests).  When choosing a
college, there are many factors to consider, such as whether it
offers the intended college major, location of the college, size
of the college, size of the city where the college is located, cost
of attendance, difficulty in being admitted...  This is where the
college visit comes in-- it helps in comparing each potential
college.  The "College Application Process" link gives
information which helps the applicant know what steps to take
in the application process and what to expect in terms of
 notification from the college(s).

The "Washington 4-Year Colleges" link gives information about
what is needed and timelines for each of the public and private
4-year colleges in Washington.  It also gives contact
information for each.  It is important to get similar information
directly from the college web site when applying to
out-of-state colleges.  The "Washington Community Colleges"
link lists similar information about all of the community
colleges in Washington.  The "Comparing College Costs" link
gives estimated cost of attendance information for colleges
that many students from this area tend to apply.  When
attending out-of-state colleges, the tuition is normally much
higher (usually 2 1/2- 3 times as much as for in-state
colleges).  The "Western Undergraduate Exchange" link gives
information about a program in which participating colleges
in the western US offer college tuition for other students in
those states that is equal to 150% of the rate of in-state
tuition.  If planning to attend a college in a neighboring
state, check the link to see if that college participates.
