Delivering a big hit
Brush Prairie’s Jordan Bennett will
combine two of her favorite things when
she and her family travel to Denver in
July.
Not only will she play in a national
fast-pitch softball tournament attended
by hundreds of college scouts, she’ll
show off her singing skills by opening
for country music star Kellie Pickler.
Bennett, 16, is one of four softball
players chosen to sing one song each
before Pickler takes the stage in a
concert that is part of the
entertainment at the softball
tournament.
All players and coaches were eligible to
send an audition tape to sing as an
opening act.
Bennett, a sophomore at Prairie High
School, has played fast-pitch softball
for 10 years and is involved in several
musical ensembles at school.
The way she combined her love of singing
and fast-pitch is probably what helped
her stand out in the auditions.
She reworked some of the words in a
Gretchen Wilson song, “Here for the
Party,” on her audition tape to give it
a softball theme.
