Student-Teacher Access Time (STAT) 2009-10
August 15, 2009
Dear Parents of PHS,
We are making significant gains in improving student learning through Student Teacher Access Time (STAT). The hour block in the day, where students can access teachers, is very helpful to many students and teachers. We appreciate your support as you encourage your student to use this time appropriately. After reviewing our first year of STAT, the PHS School Improvement Team is making the following improvements/adjustments for the 2009-10 school year:
All Freshmen will attend STAT every day for the first semester. Those freshmen who have no F's at the end of first semester will be eligible for one, 1 hour lunch a week. A Freshmen is defined by credits earned, not the number of years in school. This concept is difficult for some students. There are a few who believe that their grade level is determined by the number of years they have attended high school.
Grades 10-12 will attend STAT three days a week.
Students are encouraged to attend weekly forums/events in the auditorium or gym, attend clubs and activities, participate in a "tutor mentor" program to fulfill their STAT requirements in addition to using the time to connect with teachers, study and make up work.
There will be no STAT on weeks that are 3 days or less. A two lunch schedule will be implemented during those weeks.
Juniors and seniors are the only grade levels eligible to leave campus during STAT.
Thank you for your support as we strengthen and improve student learning. More details will be sent in the mail and via email before school begins. We would like to thank the following parents who have served on our School Improvement Team these past two years: Sherry Winkleblack, Corey Virgin, and Irene Graves. We welcome Stephanie Lindstrom, our newest parent member of the team.
Regards,
PHS School Improvement Team
