Reference:  Student Injuries and Insurance

Dear Parent:

Our school district does everything in its power to keep your child safe and secure while attending school.  However, we are unable to guarantee your child will not be hurt or injured while attending school.

Our district's insurance coverage does not provide medical insurance coverage for school accidents.  This means that you are responsible for the medical bills if your child gets hurt during school activities.  The school's liability coverage will provide protection if the district is found to be negligent in some manner, however, slip and fall or playground accidents are rarely the fault of the school district.

Student accident insurance is available for you to purchase for the protection of your child.  Many coverage options are available and would most likely be of great assistance in the event of an accident involving your child.  If your child is not covered by medical insurance, this coverage can be very cost effective in the event of an injury.  If your child does have other health insurance coverage, student accident insurance may be used to help pay those charges not covered by health insurance due to deductibles and co-insurance.  Please bear in mind that there are other student insurance options available which you can learn more about by checking with an insurance agent or through the internet.

Student accident brochures can be picked up in the office of either high school.  Please review your brochure carefully.  If you have any questions, please call the plan administrator, Myers-Stevens & Toohey & Company, Inc. at (800) 827-4695.  Bilingual representatives are available for parents who need assistance in Spanish.

For those parents that are purchasing interscholastic football coverage for the 2008-2009 school year, please be aware that coverage ends in the spring on the first day of spring 2009 football practice.

We look forward to a wonderful year with your child and appreciate your reviewing this information.

Sincerely,

Linda Gellings
