Prairie High School (PHS) Library Procedures
The following PHS Library procedures are implemented to allow students and staff to make maximum use of Prairie High School Library. The goal of the Library is to provide the highest quality of service and resources to meet the educational goals of our school.
Students - How to access the Library:
LIBRARY HOURS – The library is open from 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM each school
day. Students are welcome to use the library before and after school as well as
during passing periods. All other times, students must have a pass to come to
the library. Students must scan their student ID cards at all times. (this
includes the lunch/STAT period.)
FROM CLASS – Occasionally, a classroom teacher may give you a library
pass for a special purpose during his/her class time. When you arrive, place
the pass in the box on the Circulation Desk and scan in using your student ID
card. When leaving, scan out using your student ID card.
WHILE IN THE LIBRARY – Please be courteous and respectful of other
library users, staff, equipment, and materials. Feel free to ask for
assistance. Students are requested to sit five to a table.
MATERIALS/BOOKS:
Students may check out up to five books for two weeks. Reference materials are
not checked out. The purpose of the reference collection is to make materials
available for students conducting research for school projects.
FINES/OVERDUE - Library material - If a student has any overdue materials or fines they are not allowed to checkout any LIBRARY material, though overdue materials may be brought to the Circulation Desk for renewal.
Textbook material - If a student has overdue material or a fine for TEXTBOOKS they are not allowed any TEXTBOOK checkout without the approval of an Administrator.
LOST
MATERIAL
–
Students must pay the replacement cost of any item lost. If you find the lost
item, the fine will be refunded.
PHOTOCOPYING – may be done in the library. Single copies cost 5
cents per page.
EQUIPMENT:
COMPUTER USE - You are expected to follow the “Computer Use Policy” established by the school district. In general, the use of email, bulletin boards, chatrooms, games, and game-related sites is NOT ALLOWED. If you have any concern regarding computer use or whether or not a site is considered appropriate for school use, please check with the library staff.
PRINTING - All printing should be school related. There is a charge for using the laser printer; the cost is 5 cents per page. Please, make only single printouts of the material you need. Before printing from the Internet, copy the article to MS Word and print from MS Word to conserve paper and toner. Read before you print – remember cutting and pasting can save paper. Duplicate copies should be made on the copier (5 cents per page).
STUDENT FLASH DRIVES –you may use your own personal Flash Drive. Remember, students also have space on the school server to save documents – using the “U” drive.
GAGGLE.NET is a safe web based internet communication system for students. Because Gaggle is web based, students can access their accounts through any browser, from any internet connected computer. The Digital Locker is an online file storage system, similar to network drives. Users can store files on the Gaggle servers and can access them from anywhere. For example, students can upload a Word document at school and download the file at home to finish any homework assignments. There is no need for floppy disks and the risk of viruses is greatly reduced. Please check with the library staff to create a Gaggle.Net account to use.
